31 Facebook pages deactivated for spreading rumours about stock market
Thirty-one Facebook pages have been deactivated for their alleged involvement in spreading rumours about the stock market, said the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
The market regulator made the disclosure after a meeting with the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The BSEC organised the meeting to stop rumours about the market.
The Facebook pages were blocked as per recommendations of an investigation team formed in May this year.
"We are working to develop the stock market, but rumours sometimes hamper it. So, we are trying to solve this problem," said BSEC Commissioner Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed at the meeting.
"Some other pages are also on our radar."
"We will meet with the BTRC once in three months to take measures to curb the spread of rumours."
