Bank Asia observes agent banking day

Bank Asia celebrated its Agent Banking Day 2019 at Bhabanipur Bazar of Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj yesterday.

The bank opened the country's first agent banking outlet at the same place on January 17, 2014.

It has since continued to spread banking services among people in remote corners through agent banking and observed the day every year as Bank Asia Agent Banking Day.

Mohammad Islam Sheikh, owner of the first agent outlet, moderated yesterday's programme.

Mohiuddin Ahmed, chairman of Sirajdikhan upazila, was present as the chief guest and Muhammed Zahirul Alam, deputy managing director of Bank Asia, was the special guest.

Sarder Akhter Hamed, head of channel banking of Bank Asia, and Md Ahsan Ul Alam, head of agent banking, were also present at the programme joined by people from all walks of life.

The third generation scheduled commercial bank now has a total of 197 agent banking outlets. The bank is providing banking services to the rural population in 95 upazilas of 39 districts in seven divisions of the country.

The bank established in 1999 has also been successful in acquiring two foreign banks -- the Muslim Commercial Bank and Scotia Bank.

The public limited company is listed on both the stock exchanges of Bangladesh situated in Dhaka and Chattogram.
