Writ filed seeking distribution of leaflets with candidates’ affidavit info

A writ petition was filed with the High Court today seeking its directives on the Election Commission to provide information submitted by the candidates in their affidavits through distributing leaflets among the voters.

Law and Life Foundation, a rights organization, submitted the petition to the HC saying that suitable candidates for the December 30 election are not elected and the election does not become proper if the voters do not know the personal information of the candidates.

The 11th National Parliament Election Manual Chapter Seven, a guideline for the EC, has stipulated that the commission has to print and publish leaflets containing the information given by the candidates in their affidavits and to distribute them among the voters of the respective constituencies so that the voters can know about their candidates, Barrister Humayun Kabir Pallab, the lawyer for the petitioner, told The Daily Star.

The HC may hold hearing on the writ petition on Monday, he added.
