The High Court today cleared the way for independent candidate Ashraful Alam alias Hero Alam to contest the December 30 elections from Bogura-4 constituency.
The court directed the Election Commission to accept Hero Alam’s nomination paper and to allow him to contest the elections.
It also stayed the Election Commission’s decision that upheld the returning officer’s order rejecting his nomination paper.
The High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Rajik-Al Jalil passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Hero Alam challenging the Election Commission’s order.
There is no legal bar for Hero Alam to contest the upcoming elections following the High Court order, his lawyer Advocate Kawser Ali told The Daily Star.
