The motorcade of Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, BNP candidate for Narsingdi-2 constituency, reportedly came under attack during electioneering in Narsingdi’s Palash upazila this afternoon.

At least 50 people including BNP leaders and activists were injured during the attack, claimed Moyeen Khan, also a BNP Standing Committee member, while talking to The Daily Star.

Critically injured people were sent to Dhaka for better treatment, he said.

Moyeen Khan, a former BNP minister, alleged that a group of armed activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League, student and youth wings of the ruling Awami League, carried out the attack at Paachdona Bazar on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 12:30pm.

The attackers also opened fire towards the BNP men at that time, he said, adding that his car was also vandalised during the assault.
