Bagerhat rape case verdict reflects govt’s sincerity to promptly ensure justice: law minister
Finishing the trial proceedings of a rape case in Bagerhat within seven days reflects the sincerity of the government to ensure justice quickly, Law Minister Anisul Huq said today.
"I have said time and again that the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina pledges to ensure justice quickly and to establish rule of law in the country," he said.
"Also, the government has taken necessary measures to finish the trial proceedings of the cases, particularly the sensational cases, and to establish justice, human and fundamental rights. The commitment of the government is being implemented now," the minister also said.
"We have not only increased the punishment for rape from life imprisonment to death penalty but also directed the prosecution to take necessary steps for hearing and disposing of the cases quickly," he added.
