Discussion on 'Legal Stories of Life'
In his book Legal Stories of Life, Barrister Omar H Khan conveys that law is associated with every sphere of our life, including art and culture. Recently, a discussion on the book titled 'Art, Cultural Heritage and Law' took place in the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka.
The book is a compilation of write-ups, by Omar H Khan, published in The Daily Star's 'Your Advocate' column in the 'Law and Our Rights' section. The Legal Counsel is the publisher of the book. Each of the six chapters of the book begins with a painting that reflects the synopsis of the chapter. Rokeya Sultana, Rafiqun Nabi, Shahid Kabir, Monirul Islam, Jamal Ahmed, Mohammad Iqbal and Mustafa Khalid Palash are the artists of these paintings.
Professor Nisar Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, discussed how artists should be aware of the law, before exporting and selling their works in foreign countries.
The special guest of the discussion, Professor Md Rahmat Ullah, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka, said that translating the book to Bengali will make it more comprehensive for readers. The chief guest, Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka, stated that law should be easily accessible to the masses to eliminate inequality in the society.
