Three day Nazrul Mela begins at Bangla Academy today
A three-day BRAC Bank Nazrul Mela is on from October 27 to October 29 at the Bangla Academy premises. Organised by Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad (NSSP) the highlights of the Mela are the launch of a CD featuring 70 Nazrul songs recorded by Abbasuddin Ahmed as well as an album of Nazrul Sangeet by child artistes of NSSP.
A. Momen Choudhury, former Diplomat of Bangladesh, who assisted in bringing Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam to Bangladesh in 1972; Selim RF Hussain, CEO, BRAC Bank and Ferdausi Rahman, Chairman of NSSP, will confer this years' NSSP Sammanona Padak on renowned singers -- Fatema Tuz Zohra, Sujit Mustafa and Nashid Kamal.
Eminent artistes Shaheen Samad, Ferdous Ara, Yakub Ali Khan will perform solos while artistes of Shadhona will present a dance drama titled “Badol Borishon-e” on the opening day.
Under the artistic direction Lubna Marium, Shadhona's presentation of “Badol Borishon-e” is the highlight of today's event. “The choreographer Shabbir Ahmed Khan Biju has done an impressive job by presenting the dance drama in a different light based on a Kazi Nazrul Islam story on the same title. The story follows a woman who waits for her lover and eventually embraces melancholia. The production also highlights the end of the monsoon. Rokon Emon and Nirjher Chowdhury have done music for the production on Nazrul's monsoon songs,” said Lubna Marium.
The fair will also include discussion, poetry recitation, song and dance by renowned solo artistes, organisations and the representatives of 61 branches of the NSSP from all over Bangladesh. The programme will start daily at 10am and continue till 9pm.The fair will have book and CD stalls with participation of major scholarly publishers and labels.
The opening day's programme has been dedicated to Abbasuddin Ahmed while the second and concluding day's programme have been dedicated to Feroza Begum and Sohrab Hossain respectively.
