Renowned Nazrul Sangeet artiste Sujit Mustafa is the general secretary of Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad (NSSP). The artiste-organiser in his mission of uniting and motivating young artistes of the country has initiated activities in the entire divisional, district and 500 upazilla level branches of Bangladesh. He has so far reached out to 482 schools across the country, mentoring students for Nazrul's patriotic songs. He also publishes “Chakrabak”, a regular monthly on our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, and distributes copies among the students.

“There are twelve aspects of Nazrul's conscience and philosophy: humanity, love, collectivism, an exploitation-free social system, women's freedom, restructuring education, war against superstition, as well as the promotion of modernity, morality and freedom. If we can disseminate these ideologies to every school of the country, we will definitely have more conscious generations in the days ahead,” hopes Sujit Mustafa.

“Living in an era of globalisation and satellite invasion, we cannot project our culture properly; rather we are being marginalised. We must raise our voices to stand upright. The mass media has a great role to play on this front. Again, Dhaka-based artistes are busy with their own projection, lobbying, networking; on the other hand, the talented young artistes across the country are submerged in despair. That's why we are reaching towards them to project their talents,” asserts the singer.

NSSP has so far honoured eight eminent personalities with Nazrul Padak. Searching 60 underexposed Nazrul Sadhok from across the country. Apart from holding programmes and competitions marking Nazrul birth and death anniversary, NSSP has been regularly arranging musical programmes every Tuesday at their Dhaka office for the last three -and- a -half years. Relatively young artistes get priority to perform , while many noted singers attend as audience. “We find and listen to the best singers from district and upazila level and try to project them nationally by providing platforms on stage and TV channels. We also help them produce and release their solo albums,” mentioned Sujit Mustafa.

Nazrul is a poet of unity. Divisive forces who misinterpret Nazrul or Nazrul Sangeet do injustice to Nazrul's ideology. Rising above mundane personal interests, we should all unite in Nazrul's memory,” says the singer.

“I do practise Nazrul Sangeet and want to disseminate his songs, literary creations and philosophy amongst all. It will not benefit Nazrul; rather we will be benefitted collectively. Someone has to take the responsibility of nourishing our art, literature and culture to thwart social decay, to educate tomorrow's nation builders and to build a better society. To meet this end, our collective effort is a must and more people should respond to the greater cause,” concludes Sujit Mustafa.
