Art exhibition at JKKNIU

In memory of Novera Ahmed, a leading sculptor of Bangladesh, a three-day open art exhibition at Bottola on Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) campus in Trishal will conclude tomorrow.

Novera studied in Kolkata and acquired a diploma in Design on Modeling and Sculpture from Camberwell College of Arts in London in 1955. She died on May 6 at a hospital in Paris at the age of 85.

The Fine Arts Department's teachers and students of JKKNIU organised the exhibition. Thirty-six artworks by teachers and students of the department were on display at the exhibition.

Talking to this correspondent, Tapon Kumar Sarker, head of Fine Arts Department said, “We organised the exhibition to pay tribute to the first woman sculptor of the country who brought a new dimension to this field.”

Earlier, a discussion was held where speakers said Novera, one of the pioneers of modern sculpture, will be remembered for her outstanding work with Hamidur Rahman on the original design of the Central Shaheed Minar.
