67 houses gutted in two districts

At least 67 houses were gutted in fire incidents in Panchagarh and Pabna districts yesterday.
In Panchagarh, a devastating fire gutted at least 52 houses at Gitalgaoch village in Tentulia upazila early yesterday, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
Station Officer of Tentulia Fire Service and Civil Defence unit Obaidul Islam said the fire originated from an earthen oven of one Ramijul Islam's house at 12:30am and soon engulfed the adjoining dwellings.
Several cattle, including two goats and three cows, were also burnt to death in the fire incident.
On information, two firefighting units from Tentulia and Panchagarh rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after more than three hours of frantic efforts.
The affected house owners claimed that the loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk one crore. However, the fire fighters estimated the damage at Tk 25 lakh.
Deputy Commissioner of Panchgarh Mohammad Salah Uddin visited the spot and distributed Tk 2,000 and 30 kg of rice to each affected families.
Away in Pabna, at least 15 houses were gutted at Mridhapara village in Faridpur upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports our correspondent.
The affected house owners include Robiul Islam, Rafikul Islam, Rawshan Ali, Afzal Hossain, Shayem Hossain, Abu Sayed, Abul Hassem and Hafizur Rahman of the village.
The fire originated at the kitchen of one Abu Sayem around 10:00am and soon engulfed the adjacent houses, said the victims.
Later, locals doused the blaze as there is no fire station in the upazila, they said.
An affected house owner, Abu Sayed, claimed that the damage caused by the fire could go up to Tk 25 lakh.
