32 Gazipur cops test positive for coronavirus
A total of 32 policemen under Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) and Gazipur district have tested positive for coronavirus.
Khairuzzaman, civil surgeon of Gazipur, confirmed that 32 law enforcers tested positive with Covid-19 till this morning.
Of the infected policemen, 25 are from Gachha Police Station of the GMP and seven from Kaliganj Police Station of Gazipur district police, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting the officials of GMP and district police.
All 25 infected from Gachha Police Station, except three female members, remain in isolation inside the police station, said GMP Commissioner Anwar Hossain.
Kazi Kamal, sub-inspector (SI) of Kaliganj Police Station, said seven policemen -- including three SIs, one ASI and three constables -- of the police station have been infected with the coronavirus.
All the infected have been kept under isolation in the police station, the police official added.
Civil surgeon Khairuzzaman also said a sub-inspector of Gachha Police Station tested positive with coronavirus on April 13, the first confirmed case in the GMP, while an assistant police commissioner of Gachha zone, two police constables and an employee of the station were found positive on April 16.
Later, a team from the IEDCR collected samples from 26 more policemen and of them, tests of 20 came back positive last night, he added.
