Will 'Vikram Vedha' remake live up to expectation?
Director duo Pushkar–Gayathri have declared the official Hindi remake of their much-appreciated, neo-noir action thriller film "Vikram Vedha". The movie stars Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Radhika Apte.
While the original Tamil film starred R Madhavan as Inspector Vikram, with Vijay Sethupathi portraying Vedha; the remake will see Saif taking on the role of Vikram opposite Hrithik Roshan's Vedha.
While many questioned the casting of Vikram, particularly noting that there was no need to replace Madhavan, it seems the actor could not be a part of the remake due to scheduling conflicts. Madhavan was busy working on his biographical drama "Rocketry: The Nambi Effect" during the time when shooting for the remake took place.
Initially, the role of Vikram was offered to Shah Rukh Khan, and later to Aamir Khan, however, both actors declined the role. Finally, Saif was selected to play the part, after his remarkable performance in the Netflix original series "Sacred Games".
Despite all of the discussions surrounding who will play the character of Vikram, not much was said about the choice of Hrithik for the role of Vedha.
Makkal Selvan (People's treasure) Vijay Sethupathi has always been one of the most celebrated actors from the South Indian film industry. Taking on a role that was once played by Vijay, that too from a production as successful as "Vikram Vedha", can be quite a task for the "Kaho Na Pyaar Hain" actor.
However, fans can rest easy seeing Hrithik's performance as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan in the remake of "Agneepath". The original movie had featured Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, and Hrithik's performance in the film definitely lived up to the expectations of fans.
With a promising cast of stars, the audiences' expectations from Hindi remake of "Vikram Vedha" has only been on the rise since its announcement. In line with other remakes from recent memory—such as "Kabir Singh" (remake of "Arjun Reddy"), and "Jersey"—cine-lovers can now only eagerly anticipate the release of the movie to give a proper verdict.
The shooting for the film was wrapped up by June 10, with the production slated for theatrical release on September 30.
