The many firsts of POPY

Three-time National Film Award winning superstar Popy shot into the spotlight with her very first movie. She now features in several TV plays as well.
In a recent conversation, the talented film artiste spoke to The Daily Star about the 'firsts' in her life.
What was your first movie?
Popy: “Coolie”, directed by Mamtazur Rahman Akbar was released in 1997. Omar Sani was my co-star in the blockbuster.
First TV play…
Popy: Director Shahidul Islam Khan's “Nayak” was aired on BTV. I co-starred with film star Illias Kanchan.
Debut TV Commercial….
Popy: After wining the Lux Beauty Contest, I appeared in a TVC of Berger Paint.
First income…
Popy: I received Tk 25,000 as Lux Superstar in 1996. This was a great achievement for me.
Award…
Popy: In my schooldays, I got a set of cups as first prize in a drawing competition.
School…
Popy: National Girls' School at Gobarchaka in Khulna.
Dream…
Popy: I wanted to be a journalist as my uncle was the publisher of a local daily.
Achievement…
Popy: I never had to look back after my selection as Lux Superstar.
Love letter…
Popy: When I was a fifth grader I receive a letter from a boy. I promptly burst into tears. When I told my father, he and my uncle rebuked the boy.
