ParentsCare: A new door for elderly citizens
With time comes age, and with age comes many problems, including but not limited to weakening bodily functions and susceptibility to diseases and disability. Those with senior citizens as parents are well aware of the burden their mothers and fathers go through on a daily basis, with age taking a toll on their physical, mental and psychological health every day. Due to pressure from life and work, many of us are often unable to provide the time and attention our senior parents require. To provide a solution to such problems, Sams Abu Shomen and Sarmiz Fatema launched the senior healthcare startup ParentsCare, specifically aimed to provide elderly parents and senior citizens the help they need in their old age.
According to ParentsCare, the startup received a small grant from Startup Bangladesh Ltd. which helped them provide services at home during the pandemic. Gradually, they extended their services to patient guides, online doctor appointments, collection of samples from home for diagnosis and physiotherapy, and assigning caregivers and nurses to customers. These services can be availed online without the need for any physical intervention. To book appointments and services from Parentscare.xyz, simply go to the website and select the service you want. You can also ask the website chatbot for any specific information you are looking for. There are also senior care workers that you can talk to online for further help. Visit their website (www.parentscare.xyz/) to learn more.
ParentsCare currently has experienced caregivers, nurses, doctors and physiotherapists in attendance. According to Sams Abu Somen, Founder and CEO of ParentsCare, the platform has 190 skilled male and female workers who take care of the elderly round the clock. They also have 50 skilled physiotherapists and 50 nurses, all of whom are highly educated and experienced professionals. ParentsCare preserves each employee's biodata and conducts thorough background checks, and also offers appointments with specific doctors for senior citizens. Ambulance services are available as well.
ParentsCare offers a variety of services, a notable one being the 'patient guide' service which assists patients physically incapable of moving on their own. The guide will come to the patient's home, take the patient to the hospital and after the check-up will bring them back home. Normally, this service can be availed for 12 or 24 hours but can be extended to weeks or whole months as well.
ParentsCare recently received a drug trade licence to run pharmacy stores. Currently, they have made agreements with local pharmacies to provide affordable and easy-to-get medicine to senior citizens. The platform currently provides physiotherapy and elderly care services in Dhaka only, though they are planning on launching in other districts soon. Aside from creating a more connected healthcare ecosystem for aged individuals, ParentCare aims to cement themselves as a frontrunner in caregivers and patient guide services.
