BSA launches its presence in Bangladesh and appoints Country Representative
The Software Alliance (BSA) recently announced that it has formally started its operation in Bangladesh. BSA (www.bsa.org) is the leading global advocate for the software industry. It is an association of world-class companies that invest billions of dollars annually to create software solutions that spark the economy and improve modern life. Through international government relations, intellectual property enforcement and educational activities, BSA expands the horizons of the digital world and builds trust and confidence in the new technologies driving it forward. BSA has appointed Mr. Iftekhar Taher (Tanvir) as the Consultant to BSA Bangladesh. As the Consultant to the BSA Bangladesh Program, Iftekhar will play a pivotal role in Bangladesh by furthering awareness and education on the importance of intellectual rights protection (IPR) for the advancement of innovation and economic development in Bangladesh, building the enforcement mechanism for IPR enforcement in an effort to curtail software piracy and working with policy makers to ensure a secure infrastructure for innovation to flourish.
Grameen Intel's farming software to empower rice farmers in Cambodia
Grameen Intel Social Business Ltd. (GISB) has recently organized an expert training session in Cambodia with the Project for Agriculture Development and Economic Empowerment (PADEE), a program funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Cambodia. Other partners of the event were Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), SNV - Netherlands Development Organization, and iDE Cambodia. The session was designed towards introducing information and communication technology (ICT) as a promising way to increase rice productivity to become a net exporter, highlighting importance of rice experts, knowledge based agro expert system and the usage of ICT for enabling rural development.

BCS election knocking at the door
Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) for 2014-2015 will be held on 29 March 2014 at Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB), Ramna, Dhaka. For the first time ever voter will cast vote in digital format in BCS election.
Seven of the 13 candidates for posts of the Central Committee of the BCS have been introduced in the 'Introductory Meeting'. These seven candidates have now formed a panel in a slogan -Better Business for BCS (BB&B). A. H. M Mahfuzul. Arif ( Managing Director, Computer Source) , Mujibur Rahman Swapan ( IT Professionals ) , A T Shafique Uddin Ahmed ( International Computer Vision ) , Yousuf Ali Shamim ( Computer points ) , Nazrul Islam Milon ( PC-Mart ) , Kazi Shamsuddin Ahmed Lavlu ( ABC computer Corner ) and Ali Ashfaq ( RM Systems Limited ) are paneled candidates. While independent candidates are Moinul Islam ( Tech Valy ) , Abdul Momen Khan ( Data Solutions ) , Sanjay Kumar Saha ( JAAN) , engineer Subrata Sarkar ( C&C trade International ) , S. M Waheeduzzman ( Micro Sun system ) and Nazmul Alam Bhuiyan ( cyber Communication ). Branch Standing Committees include Khulna , Sylhet , Mymensingh , Jessore , Barisal , Rajshahi , Chittagong and Comilla . Jessore Branch Committee will select between eight branches.
