Murray's 'no friends' dig at Kyrgios
Injury-wracked Andy Murray proved he hasn't lost his sense of humour despite chronic pain from a hip injury forcing him into retirement this year.
The three-time Grand Slam winner came across long-time mate Nick Kyrgios in a restaurant and posted a photo on Instagram of the Aussie eating alone with the caption: "(Nick Kyrgios) having dinner with all his mates." Despite coming across as dour, Murray is known to enjoy a laugh.
Last month he put a picture of himself swigging from a champagne bottle on Instagram and said: "Celebrating the end of 2018. What a shit year that was!"
Kyrgios posted a heartfelt tribute to the Scot on Instagram shortly after his shock retirement announcement last week.
He said: “Andy, I know you take me for a joker most of the time, but at least hear me out on this one old friend.
“You will always be someone that impacted the sport in so many different ways, I know this was never the way you wanted to go out, but hey it was a heck of a ride.
“You took me under your wing as soon as I got on tour, and to this day you have been someone I literally just look forward to seeing.
A tearful Andy Murray on Friday announced he would likely retire this year due to severe pain from a hip injury, saying next week's Australian Open could be the last tournament of a glittering career.
