Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud said that skipper Shakib Al Hasan is eager to play the Tigers' next World Cup game, against India on October 19 in Pune, but his participation will depend on him being 100 percent fit for the crucial encounter.

Shakib was taken for a scan before the Tigers' previous game against New Zealand ended as the all-rounder felt discomfort in his left thigh while batting. 

Mahmud, however, informed that the champion cricketer is currently feeling 'no pain'. 

"He is feeling better than before. He is not feeling any pain now. But we can not say how he will be doing on the field. Maybe he will train and run between the wickets tomorrow, and then we can gauge how he is doing on the field," Mahmud said on Shakib's condition. 

Mahmud further mentioned that the Tigers' skipper would need to be declared 100 percent fit by the medical team for him to feature in their game against hosts India. 

"His running will be observed tomorrow. He batted and also bowled 10 overs even after suffering the injury blow in the previous game. If that is the case, that is if he does not feel any discomfort then maybe he can play. Shakib wants to play, but it will depend on his 100 percent fitness," Mahmud added. 

Shakib was heavily criticised for dropping Tamim Iqbal from the World Cup squad on the grounds of fitness. Tamim had been in and out of the national side in the past two years due to a back problem.
