Amer Khan questions BFF's decision-making as Brothers opt out of football
Country's traditional outfit Brothers Union have opted to stay away from footballing activities this season due to their lack of preparation and in protest of arbitrary decision-making of Bangladesh Football Federation.
Brothers Union, which once used to be considered as the third force in country's football after Mohammedan and Abahani, were relegated to the second-tier, known as the Bangladesh Championship League.
The second-tier will get underway on February 20 with the participation of 12 teams, with three clubs direct entry in line with the club licensing.
"After taking all responsibility of failure, we have decided to stay away from football because we could not prepare accordingly amid the pandemic. The club will be engaged in other disciplines like cricket and chess," football team manager Amer Khan said on Monday.
"Once clubs like Sheikh Jamal, Team BJMC were given direct entry to the top-tier. We, too, requested BFF to allow us in Premier League again as we were affected by the pandemic. But the federation did not keep their words despite promising to look into the issue," said the former national footballer, also a member of BFF executive member.
"Three clubs have been given permission to take part in Bangladesh Championship League in line with club licensing but two of the clubs don't even have a club tent or a ground," questioned Amer. "As a BFF member, I don't know who is going to be appointed as the head coach of the national team and we had to know it through media. All of these are arbitrary decisions."
Replying to a query, Amer said, "I don't think Brothers will be demoted further if we don't play the championship league because there is no such clause in the bylaws. Besides, any club can play in championship league by meeting criteria."
Amer also criticised the decision of punishing three clubs - Bashundhara Kings, Uttar Baridhara Club and Muktijoddha Sangsad KS - for not participating in the just-concluded Federation Cup.
