No place for Mashrafe against West Indies
Former captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was left out of the 24-man preliminary squad for the ODI series against West Indies, with a number of youngsters included for the first time.
The pace bowler, who does not play Tests and T20s anymore, played in Bangladesh's last international ODI series – against Zimbabwe at home in March 2020.
The 37-year-old took four wickets in that three-match series following a poor World Cup campaign when he managed to take only a single wicket.
The 24-member squad, announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board this afternoon, features all the regular players as well as four uncapped players – Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Parvez Hossain Emon and Yasir Ali Rabbi, all of the four are believed to have been rewarded for their excellent performance in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup last month.
The board also announced a 20-member preliminary squad for the Test series, with Mahmudullah kept out of the side.
West Indies have already named their touring party for the Bangladesh series, which will feature two Tests and three ODIs starting from January 20.
The Windies team, which will arrive in Dhaka on January 10, will be without a number of their key players in both formats, with the players citing Covid-related concerns as their decision to opt out of the tour.
