Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wants to restore the Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium at Fatullah to international standard and the board today inaugurated the renovation venture at a press conference.

BCB has taken the initiative to renovate this international venue for the development of Bangladesh cricket, BCB's chairman of facilities Akram Khan said at the press conference. Renovation is slated to be completed next season.

The venue hosted its last international game in 2016 during the Asia Cup.

The digital scoreboard of the main ground does not function and the floodlights have been stolen. The VIP gallery and the players' dressing rooms also remain in dismal condition.

The outer stadium is in unusable condition and flooding during rainy season has been a major issue at the venue.

Players and sports lovers have been demanding renovation of this stadium for a while.

BCB's media committee chairman Tanvir Ahmed Titu said that the height of the venue needs to be increased at least 6 feet so that water does not accumulate in the field during monsoon.

Former cricketers and cricket lovers appreciated BCB for taking the initiative.

Mohammad Ebrahim, former cricketer and a resident of Fatullah area, said: "This is a disappointment for the people of Narayanganj as well as the country that an international venue has been lying in disrepair for years. We want the stadium to be renovated soon and brought back to its glory again."
