Bangladesh women lose, but don’t disappoint
After conceding the ODI series without a fight, the Bangladesh women's team fared batter in their opening T20I against South Africa at the Diamond Oval in Kimberly today.
They ran close to the home side's 127-6 before falling 17 runs short. Fargana Houqe (35 of 37 balls) and Rumana Ahmed (36 off 41 balls) did really well in Bangladesh's chase. The pair put on 72 runs for the third wicket to keep Bangladesh in the hunt. But once Fargana was dismissed in the 18th over, Bangladesh failed to provide the firepower needed in the death overs. Bangaldesh eventually finished on 110-5 in their share of 20 overs.
The South African women's team, who won the ODI series 4-0, now lead the three-match T20 series 1-0. After winning the toss and electing to bat, South Africa women rode on a 77-run opening stand between Lizelle Lee (41) and Laura Wolvaardt (30) to post a fighting total. Bangladesh off-spinner Khadija Tul Kubra finished with an outstanding figures of three wickets for 23 runs in her four overs.
The second T20I will take place at Bloemfontein on Saturday.
