We can’t take any risks with Shakib, reveals BCB president
Bangladesh's Test and T20 captain was included in the Tigers' squad for the upcoming Nidahas trophy in Sri Lanka despite the all-rounder carrying an injury and BCB president Nazmul Hassan says that the board is aware that they cannot take any risks with the ace all-rounder.
Shakib injured his little finger during Tigers' defeat to Sri Lanka in the final of the ODI series on January 27. Shakib sat out the Test series and although he was then included for the two-match T20I, he did not feature owing to the injury.
BCB president said that though the skipper has been included in the squad, it would be ideal to have him rest for 8 to 10 days.
"Shakib does not have a problem to bowl but there is an issue with batting. It would be ideal if we can rest him for further eight to ten days.
Bangladesh included Mehedi Hasan Miraz as a back up plan as it is likely that the all-rounder may not recover in time for the start of the tournament.
"We can't take any risks with Shakib and we sat down with the player. Ultimately, we announced a 16-man squad instead of a squad of 15 players.
"I am absolutely confident that he will play but we took measures in case he can't play a match or two," the President concluded.
