Mahmudullah to miss final round
Central Zone skipper Mahmudullah Riyad is the latest to join the long list of injured national cricketers as he suffered an ankle injury and will miss the sixth and final round match of the Bangladesh Cricket League against Islami Bank East Zone starting today in Rajshahi.
The 32-year-old has been carrying the right ankle injury for the past few months and experienced some pain during the fifth-round match, but according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Debashish Chowdhury the cricketer is expected to be fit ahead of the national camp starting from May 13.
"He had an old ankle injury which he has been managing for the past few months and he played the Nidahas Trophy by managing the pain. But the pain increased during the fifth round of the BCL, so he was given an injection and suggested to take rest. We are expecting him to recover soon and he will be able to join the national camp from the start," Chowdhury told the reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
He also informed that Mahmudullah could have played the last round of the BCL by taking pain-killers.
"Mahmudullah told us that he wants to play without any difficulty for the next eight to 10 months, which is why we have advised him to rest so that the pain does not increase. We have a busy schedule in the coming months," he added.
Earlier in the season, national wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim injured his ankle while playing football during the fourth round of the league mere days after Nasir Hossain injured his knee ligaments, also while playing football. Pacer Taskin Ahmed is suffering from back pain while Mehedi Hasan Miraz is down with a shoulder injury. National opener Tamim Iqbal is currently undergoing rehabilitation on his left knee and Mosaddek Hossain also suffered a shoulder injury in the fifth round of the BCL, but the South Zone batsman is expected to play today.
