Dominant bowling effort hands victory to North Zone
North Zone picked up their second victory in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) as they picked up 20 East Zone wickets in a single day to win by an innings and 28 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Young and upcoming pacers Yeasin Arafat and Shoriful Islam brought East Zone's demise in the first innings as they were bowled out for just 217, having reached stumps on Day 2 on 110 without any loss. Liton Das, who was looking in dazzling form with the bat the other day, only added 17 to his overnight score of 52 to fall for 69 off Arafat's delivery.
There was no respite in the second innings as Yeasin and Shoriful bagged three wickets each after East Zone were made to follow-on.
Shafiul Islam also grabbed three wickets as East Zone were bowled out for 170 as the match ended on Day three.
In another match at Rajshahi, South Zone reached 348 for the loss of six wickets at stumps courtesy of a 193-run fourth-wicket partnership between Tushar Imran and Mithun Ali.
Mithun scored a 121-ball 118 before falling to Mosharraf Hossain. Tushar, who had already hit five tons in this year's BCL, missed out on a century as he fell for 88.
North Zone currently lead the BCL table with 58 points.
