We are not learning from our mistakes: Mashrafe

Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said that the Tigers are not learning from their mistakes as they once again lost a close game against West Indies and failed to secure a series win in Guyana.

It looked like Bangladesh were on course for a victory and a second series win against the West Indies on their home turf when Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad steadied a rocking boat and guided them close to their target of 272, with seven wickets in hand and 40 needed off the last five overs.

But just like the past, Bangladesh yet again failed to win a close encounter and lost to West Indies by 3 runs. The Tigers’ skipper Mashrafe expressed his frustration of not being able to learn from past mistakes during a post-match interview.

“Ofcourse. Losing a close game like this is very disappointing. No reason to lose a match where we needed only 14 from 13 balls with six wickets in hand.

“It is not the first time that we lost a close encounter. It has happened quite a few times in the recent past. It is very disappointing that we are not learning from our mistakes. We must have finished the game easily, but unfortunately we could not.” said Mashrafe.

Mashrafe also said that it is actually hard to describe such defeats and said that the Tigers should have kept a steady nerve and dealt in singles during the latter part of the game to snatch a victory.

“It is actually hard to describe. Honestly speaking, we are making such mistakes very often. We should have kept a steady nerve in this situation. If we had the tendency to score in singles then the match would be ours.” added Mashrafe.

The skipper also mentioned that even though it is hard to say where things went wrong in this type of match but also admitted that Riyad’s run-out proved to be costly for the Tigers in the match.

“The game continued till the last ball. In this type of matches it is very tough to say where things went wrong. But obviously if (Mahmudullah) Riyad had not gotten run-out then it would be an easier game for us.” Mashrafe concluded.
