BPL to begin January 5

The sixth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League will begin on January 5, 2019 and conclude on February 8, informed BCB media committee chairman Jalal Younus after the BPL governing council's meeting yesterday.
Seven franchise owners sat in on the meeting, where the decision was made that each team can retain four players, either both foreign or local.
However, no decision has been made yet over how many foreign recruits can be included in the playing XI.
In the previous season, each team was allowed to field five foreigners.
The players' draft is likely to take place in October but each team can sign three foreigners directly while registering a maximum of eight foreigners.
The BPL was postponed this year due to the upcoming national elections so the BCB wanted to stage two editions in 2019 but the franchisees declined. Hence, the seventh edition will take place in March 2020.
It was also learned that the franchises urged the BPL's governing council to share the tournament's revenue with them but the proposal was rejected.
According to sources, the council will also introduce the DRS in the upcoming edition and add a foreign umpire to each game.
