Players with disciplinary issues to be called up
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media committee chairman Jalal Younus informed today that players who have disciplinary allegations against them will be called up before the board.
During the tour of West Indies, cricketer Sabbir Rahman landed himself in hot waters after screenshots emerged of abusive language used and threats issued towards a fan from a Facebook account bearing his name and one he used in conversation with media personnel in the past. BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury had stated that the matter was going to be referred to the disciplinary committee.
While talking to reporters today, Jalal Younus reiterated that the board has 'zero tolerance' policy on indiscipline and the players involved are to be called upon.
"Last time the honourable board president talked to you about this. He had said that we don't show any tolerance when it comes to disciplinary issues. Absolutely zero tolerance," he said.
Shakib Al Hasan was also involved with an altercation with a fan after the conclusion of the West Indies tour. The media committee chairman said that several of the issues involving players were being looked upon. It was learned that other than Sabbir, Nassir Hossain -- who was the subject of an unsavoury Youtube video -- are likely to be called upon by BCB.
On August 9 BCB president Nazmul Hassan had said that there were two players that he knew of, adding that one was playing currently and the other has not been playing for a while.
"We are aware of them, not only one but we are aware of a few of them in fact. The disciplinary committee is working on the issues and soon the players involved will be called upon – those who have any specific kind of allegation against them," Younus said.
Regarding punishments if any of the allegations are proven, he said that first the allegations will have to be properly examined.
"We have to examine the allegations properly and then comes the punishment," he concluded.
