A youth was stabbed to death and 10 others injured in a clash centring the union parishad elections at the Tarabaria Bazar area of Chortarapur union in Pabna's Sadar upazila this evening.

The deceased Nasim Hossain (25) of Atghoriapara village of the union, was stabbed when he was videotaping a clash between Awami League nominated candidate Robiul Haque Tutul's supporters with rebel candidate Siddiqur Rahman's men, reports our local correspondent quoting Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Aminul Islam.

"Supporters of both the candidates locked in a clash at the Tarabaria Bazar area at about 5:30 pm. As Nasim was videotaping the incident, at one stage they stabbed him -- leading to his death," said the OC.

Rebel candidate Siddiqur claimed the deceased was his supporter. "Tutul led the attack against my supporters when they were campaigning at the bazar area after damaging my posters," he told The Daily Star.

"They stabbed Nasim to death while injuring 10 to 12 people, most of whom are my relatives," he added.

AL chairman candidate Md Robiul Haque Tutul however, could not be reached over the phone for his comments.

"We are investigating the incident. Police are trying to nab the culprits," said OC Aminul.
