2 killed in separate post-election violence in Munshiganj
Two persons were killed in separate post-election violence at Banglabazar and Panchasar unions of Munshiganj Sadar yesterday during the third phase of union parishad elections.
The deceased were identified as Shakil (30), son of Harun Mollah of Kachikata village in Shariatpur district, and Riazul Sheikh (70), son of late Altaf Uddin of Gosaibagh village of Panchasar union, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Sumon Dev, additional superintendent of police (ASP) of Munshiganj.
Shakil was killed in a clash between the supporters of book symbol candidate Arfa Begum and pen symbol candidate Rabia Begum over the delay in the announcement of election result at Uttar Vuikailas Government Primary School centre in Banglabazar union at 6:30pm yesterday, the ASP said.
The deceased Shakil is nephew of the member-elect Rabia Begum.
Meanwhile, another Riazul Sheikh, cousin of Ali Siddique, independent candidate, was killed in an attack carried out by the supporters of another independent candidate Golam Mostafa at Gosaibagh area of Panchasar union at 8pm, victim's wife Bilkich Begum alleged.
The ASP said legal action will be taken if anyone files a complaint in connection with those incidents.
