10 injured in post-polls violence in Pabna’s Ishwardi

At least 10 people have been injured as two rival Awami League factions clashed after the Union Parishad elections at the Charkur area of Lokhmikunda union in Pabna's Ishwardi upazila.
The clash erupted between the men of member-candidate Rekat Ali and winning member-elect Asadul Islam, both belonging to AL, at the Charkur area around 9:30pm tonight when both the groups came across each another, said Masud Alom, additional superintendent of Pabna police.
Both the groups clashed with sharp and lethal weapons that left at least 10 injured, the additional SP said. Of the injured, three people are in critical condition, reports our Pabna correspondent.
"They have a long-standing dispute. After the election the men of the winning member and defeated member locked in a clash to establish supremacy in the area," the additional SP said.
The situation is tense in the area and additional police forces have been deployed to keep the law and order situation under control, he added.
