School employee held for attempted rape of 5th grader in Pirojpur

Police detained a staff of a government primary school today over attempted rape of a fifth-grade student in Pirojpur's Bhandaria upazila.

The detainee is Biplob Mistry (35), a night guard and also a record-keeper in Medirabad Government Primary School, our local correspondent reports.

Quoting the victim, head teacher of the school, Barun Kumar Mitro, said that the girl was offering her prayers in a room of the school while another girl was on the bench on Tuesday (April 5, 2022).

At that time, Biplob tried to rape the girl who was praying, Headmaster Barun said. When the other girl saw the incident, Biplob left the scene, he added.

The next day a few students disclosed the matter to one of the female teachers and she informed the head teacher.

Today, Barun sat with the school managing committee members and arranged arbitration to punish the accused. But locals informed the matter to police calling 999 emergency number.

Then police from Bhandaria Police Station detained Biplob.

Mohammad Saidur Rahman, superintendent of police in Pirojpur, confirmed the development and said that a case filing is underway and they will take legal steps.
