5 Jama’atul Ansar members arrested: CTTC
Counterterrorism officials claimed to have arrested five members of a "newly surfaced militant group" from Dhaka's Jatrabari area yesterday (October 26, 2022).
The arrestees are Abdullah, Tazul Islam, Ziauddin, Md Habibullah and Mahmudul Hasan, said Md Asaduzzaman, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
At a press conference at DMCP Media centre today (October 27, 2022), the police official said they are active members of militant group "Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya".
Of the arrestees, Habibullah and Mahmudul -- being influenced by the outfit's leaders -- left their homes recently while the three others were tasked to ensure shelters and training to the newly recruited operative, he said.
Earlier, police and Rab claimed to have arrested around two dozen leaders and operatives of the militant group.
Law enforcers said the members group have taken training under the supervision of some separatist groups in Chittagong Hill Tracts where law enforcers carried out operations recently.
