2 tortured in Jashore: Victims claim they are facing threats after 3 accused including UP member get bail

Three of the four accused, including a UP member, who were arrested over the brutal torture of a young man and woman publicly in Jashore Sadar upazila on Friday, gets bail yesterday evening.
They are: UP member Anisur Rahman, his associates Ayub Ali, and Abdul Alim.
Another arrestee Bhutto, however, was sent to jail, our Benapole correspondent reports, quoting General Recording Officer of Jashore Court Mujibur Rahman.
Meanwhile, the victim, a 19-year-old girl, alleged that several men loyal to the accused had been threatening them for the withdrawal of the case after the accused secured bail from the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Manzurul Islam.
"They issued death threats," she said, adding some of their relatives left their homes and were staying elsewhere in fear.
Police arrested the four accused on Friday night and produced them before the court yesterday evening after the girl's father filed the case with Sadar Police Station.
People of the area have been stunned by the early release of the accused on bail when the brutal torture by the accused went viral on social media. Legal experts alleged that police did not register the case under proper sections of the concerned law, helping the accused to secure bail from court easily.
Kazi Faridul Islam, former president of the district lawyers' association, said police included section 354 of Penal Code for molestation in the case but the accused can be charged under the nonbailable section 10 of Women and Children Repression Prevention Act for the offence.
Despite repeated attempts, the officer-in-charge of the police station did not respond for comment on it.
On Friday, the UP members along with some others tortured the girl and 22-year-old man as they were returning home on the evening of March 16 from Waz Mahfil in a nearby village on a bicycle.
Bringing the allegation of immoral activities, the accused tied up them, beat the duo with shoes and sticks in front of hundreds of people, leaving them seriously injured.
However, UP member Anisur said the allegation brought against him is false.
A section of people is spreading propaganda to humiliate him socially, he said.
