A man was dead after a train hit him in Rail Gate area of Jashore town this morning.

The incident happened when he saved a child from accident around 8:00 am, our Benapole correspondent reports.

The deceased, Abdul Hakim (52), used to sell watches in the area.

Jashore Railway Station Master Aynal Haque confirmed the incident.

Rafiqul Islam, younger brother of the deceased, said Hakim, like everyday, went out for a morning walk. After exercise at Pouro Park, he was returning home. On the way, while he was crossing the rail gate, he saved a child from being run over by a train. But the Benapole-bound train hit Hakim and he sustained serious injuries, his brother added.

Locals rescued him and admitted him to Jashore General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The hospital's on duty doctor Shahinur Rahman said that Hakim was brought dead to the hospital.
