A university student drowned in a waterfall in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram this morning.

The deceased was identified as AKM Naimul Hasan, 20, a second-year honours student of International Islamic University of Chattogram, hailing from port city's Kattoli area, reports our district correspondent citing Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The incident took place at Bilashi waterfall in the upazila around 10:00am when the victim was trying to take selfies, said Firoj Miah, station officer of the Kumira Fire Service.

Receiving information, fire service rushed to the spot and recovered Naimul's body around 12:00pm, he said.

"The victim slipped off and fell into the deep water body created by the stream and the waterfall and drowned as he didn't know how to swim," the station officer said.

The body was handed over to Sitakunda Police Station, he added.
