Couple killed, three injured in Ctg fire

A man and his wife were killed and three others were injured in a fire incident at Jafar Colony in Baluar Dighir Par area of Chattogram city yesterday morning.

The deceased were Md Ilias, 55, and his wife Parvin Akter, 48, said Abdul Mannan, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Chattogram.

The blaze originated in a semi-pucca house in the colony around 6:40am, he said, adding the cause could not be ascertained immediately.

On information, four firefighting units rushed to the spot and managed to douse the blaze around 8:30am, Mannan also said.

Firefighters rescued five people from the house and sent them to CMCH, the official added.

Contacted, Dr Rafique Uddin Ahmed, head of Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit at CMCH, said two of the burn victims were brought dead while three others were being treated.
