9 killed in 4 road accidents involving auto-rickshaws

Nine people were killed in four road accidents involving auto-rickshaws in Bogura, Narsingdi, Sirajganj, and Cox's Bazar today.

In Bogura, three passengers of a CNG-run-auto-rickshaw were killed and two injured when a truck hit it at the Hajipir area on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in the afternoon, reports our district correspondent.

Among the dead, the police have identified four-year-old child Jannat Luba and Golam Kabir, 44.

Md Abdul Wadud, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police Station, said, the accident occurred at 3:30pm when an unidentified truck hit the auto-rickshaw from behind. Two people died on the spot.

Local rescued the other 3 passengers and sent them to the Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in critical condition. One later succumbed to his injuries, he added.

"We could not identify all deceased and injured immediately," said Wadud, adding police are trying to identify the truck.

In Narsingdi, two people were killed when a goods-laden truck coming from the opposite side hit an auto-rickshaw.

The incident took place in the Saheprotab area around 1:20pm, reports our district correspondent.

The deceased were identified as Shahadat Hossain, 58, of Madhobdi upazila, and Abdur Rahman, 70, of Panchdhona area under Sadar upazila of the district.

Quoting locals, Kabir Hossain Ali, in-charge of Itakhala Highway Police, said, "A goods-laden truck hit an auto-rickshaw from the opposite side injuring two people. They died on the way to a hospital."

In Sirajganj, three people, including a seven-month-old baby, were killed and three others injured as a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Salanga area this morning.

The deceased are auto-rickshaw passengers, Chan Banu, 50, of Ullapara upazila, Dolly Akter, 25, of Fazle Khan Road in Sirajganj town, and her seven-month-old son Nihan, reports our Pabna correspondent.

The incident took place on Sirajganj-Hatikumrul road near Nalka Bridge around 8:30am when a Sirajganj-bound auto-rickshaw was hit by a speeding bus coming from the opposite direction, said Hatikumrul Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Badrul Kabir.

The injured were taken to a local hospital, the OC said.

In Cox's Bazar, a school teacher was killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a microbus in Moheshkhali upazila.

The deceased was identified as Liton Pal, 42, of Putibila area of the upazila. He was working as an assistant teacher of Khutakhali High School in Chakaria upazila, reports our Cox's Bazar staff correspondent.

The accident took place around 12:00pm today on Matarbari-Chitakhola road when an auto-rickshaw leaving Chakaria's Badarkhali collided head-on with a microbus coming from Moheshkhali's Gorakghata, said Md Shahadat Hossain, sub-inspector of Moheshkhali Police Station.

The injured have been admitted to different hospitals in Moheshkhali and Chakaria.
