Mamata hurt after her helicopter makes emergency landing
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today sustained injuries when the helicopter carrying her made an emergency landing at Sevoke air base near Siliguri in India.
The emergency landing was made due to bad weather, reports our New Delhi correspondent quoting officials.
"It was raining very heavily and the pilot of the helicopter decided to make an emergency landing after the copter started shaking terribly when it ran into bad weather on the way to Bagdogra airport," an official told PTI.
Mamata, 68, was hurt in her waist and legs during the turbulence. She later returned to Kolkata by air.
The chief minister was then taken to the state-run SSKM Hospital where an MRI was done, officials said.
The chief minister was returning to Kolkata after a two-day trip to northern districts of the state to campaign for the panchayat elections scheduled on July 8.
