Ctg-Rajshahi face off
Chittagong Kings will go into today's first semifinal against Duronto Rajshahi with an edge after beating the same opponents to confirm their berth at this stage. But it will still be an altogether different ball game for them when they meet at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur at 6pm.
The losers will be eliminated from the competition while the winner will face-off against Sylhet Royals, the losing team in the Race to Final, in the second semifinal at the same venue tomorrow.
Chittagong Kings have shown impressive form of late after a forlorn start to their league run and Brendan Taylor has played a pivotal role in their success. But the Kings will be without the inspirational Zimbabwe batsman after he left Bangladesh for national commitments.
“Undoubtedly Taylor played a vital role and led the team from the front, so the team will definitely feel his absence. But it's a reality and the team should accept it and play as per their potential. I'm hopeful about my team if the boys can play to their potential,†said Kings coach Khaled Mahmud.
On the other hand Duronto Rajshahi, who qualified by virtue of a better head-to-head record, have been increasingly inconsistent in the second edition of the tournament and they will definitely miss their inspirational opener Tamim Iqbal, who has been ruled out of the BPL due to a finger injury.
But Rajshahi coach Khaled Mashud believe that anything can happen in T20 cricket and its difficult to brand any team favourite in the newest format of the game.
