From dance to music

Porshi started her dance lessons at a very young age at Uttara's Nrityakala Niketan. Accompanied by her maternal grandfather, she became a regular face at the institute. She was gradually drawn to singing. Soon arrangements were made so that Porshi could take vocal lessons at home. With the passage of time, Porshi became keener on singing and dancing kept losing its allotted time.
In 2008, Porshi participated in Channel i's “Khude Gaanraaj”, beating thousands of candidates to climb to the top 20. Her journey did not stop there; she finally made it to the top 5 of the competition to cement her place in the audio industry.
Now her schedule is filled with appointments for playback, stage performances, live TV shows and making mixed and solo albums. So far she has done playback for 20 films. Her debut solo album was titled “Porshi”, while the work on “Porshi 2” is currently underway. Ibrar Tipu, Arfin Rumey, Jewel Morshed, Shandhi and a few others are composing the music for her latest venture. Porshi revealed that the new album is likely to hit the stores within three months, expressing the hope that listeners will enjoy her efforts just as they appreciated her debut.
Porshi's song “Lojja” created a stir among music lovers and earned her a nomination in the 2010 edition of Meril Prothom Alo Awards. Although she did not win in the final round, the nomination has been a major encouragement for the singer.
Porshi is currently a student of class nine (commerce section) of the Cambrian School. She takes vocal lessons from noted classical artiste and guru Anup Barua. However, her time is equally split between studies and music, Porshi adds.
The singer credits her mother for all her achievements. Porshi adds that without her mother's help, she couldn't have come this far.
Asked about her dreams on the music front, Porshi says her desire is to be a good singer, cement a place in the audience's hearts and reach listeners from all classes.
Like all popular artistes, Porshi manages to get only a little time off -- which she likes to spend with her family.
