Western Marine Shipyard gets nat'l maritime award

Western Marine Shipyard Limited has received National Maritime Award - 2007 for its contribution to the country's shipbuilding industry.
The award was announced for the first time in Bangladesh on the occasion of World Maritime Day.
Shipping Adviser Maj Gen MA Matin (retd) handed over the award to Chief Naval Architect of the company Md Ali Jinnah at a function in Narayanganj on Tuesday, said a press release.
The company is a concern of Western Marine Group.
The company has received an order from a European country to build five 4100-tonne cargo ships. Building of these vessels has already started at its shipyard equipped at Patia in Chittagong.
Bangladesh currently earns foreign currency equivalent to Tk 500 crore a year from this sector.
