Partha Pratim Majumder to be in town

Partha Pratim Majumder
Renowned mime artiste Partha Pratim Majumder is all set to come home later this month. This time he is expected to stay for two months. He will train mime artistes in Dhaka and different districts of Bangladesh. His student Nithor Mahbub says, "He will be visiting Bangladesh every year to extend and popularise this form of art. I am assigned to carry on this task on his behalf in Bangladesh and we have plans to work on mime when he returns." Meanwhile, Golam Sarwar, deputy director of the Department of Drama, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), asserted that the department would stage a mime-based production directed by Majumder. Besides, theatre troupe Natukey would also put up another production under the direction of the well-known mime artiste. Majumder was born in an artistically inclined family in Pabna in 1954. He trained at Jogesh Dutta's Mime Academy in Calcutta (now Kolkata) from 1966 to 1972. On his return to Dhaka, he enrolled at the Government Music College. In the '70s Majumder used to perform mime and render songs at programmes, which earned him popularity. Concurrently he joined the theatre troupe Drama Circle. In the early '80s he got his big break to study mime in Europe.
