French Ambassador to Bangladesh Monsieur Michel Trinquier hosted a reception in honour of mime maestro Partha Pratim Majumder on his receiving Bangla Academy Honorary Fellowship 2014. The reception, held at the ambassador's residence at Gulshan, on February 27 evening, was attended by eminent cultural personalities, diplomats, distinguished guests and senior officials of the French Embassy in Dhaka and Alliance Française de Dhaka.
In his speech Michel Trinquier said, "The great mime maestro Partha Pratim Majumder, who is now visiting his motherland, has closely worked with the greatest mime maestro Monsieur Marcel Marceau. The mime maestro duo represented both France and Bangladesh through showcasing their arts across the world. Partha Pratim Majumder was conferred with many awards including, the highest European honour for theatre named “Moliere Award” in 2009 and the “Ekushey Padak” in 2010.
“He also received the highest cultural title “Chevalier de L'ordre des Arts et des Lettres” (Knight in the order of Fine Arts and Humanities), conferred by the French Republic in 2011. Bangla Academy has recently conferred on him the Bangla Academy Honorary Fellowship 2014. He is an artiste of rare quality. We are really very proud of him. His ultimate dream is to set up an international standard mime academy in Bangladesh. We'll try our best to make his dream a reality.”
Partha Pratim Majumder in reply said, “I feel truly blessed and honoured to have received such an award. This is the glorious month of February when all the Bengali speaking nationals around the world remember the sacrifices made by the martyrs on February 21, 1952 for Bangla language. The entire world now celebrates 21st February as “International Mother Language Day”. I am dedicating my Bangla Academy Honorary Fellowship 2014 to all the martyrs -- Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, Shafiq and many others who laid down their lives in Language Movement”.
“My sincere desire is to establish an international standard mime academy in Bangladesh. I have been working at it for years. As I will not be able to build a mime academy on my own, I need the help of Bangladesh and French Governments; their appropriate ministries and suitable donors. “KDIN FOUNDATION” has already promised to give an appropriate space to start the International Mime Academy for which I am very grateful. I am hoping others will also come forward to help build this International Mime Academy for the ultimate benefit of the nation. Through this, I hope to teach and leave behind the graceful art of mime among the few Bangladeshis, who will carry forward the torch of this elegant art,” added Majumder.
Among others, noted fashion designer Bibi Russell, President of International Theatre Institute (worldwide) Ramendu Majumdar, Star Arts and Entertainment editor Sadya Afreen Mallick, CEO of Media Box Sajedur Rahman Firoz and his wife Gudrun Rahman, Secretary of KDIN FOUNDATION Ishtiak Hossain, MD of RRM Group Aniruddha Roy, Attachée for Culture and Cooperation of Embassy of France in Bangladesh Emilie Chassagnard and President of AFD Abdul Majid Choudhury attended the reception.
