‘Saudi govt will take measures to ensure Bangladeshi workers stuck due to Covid-19 can return’
Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Issa bin Youssef Al-Duhailan today assured that his government will take immediate measures so that Bangladeshi workers stuck in the country due to Covid-19 and workers with new visas can return to the Middle East country.
The Saudi ambassador made the assurance during a meeting with State Minister for Civil Aviation M Mahbub Ali at the Secretariat.
The state minister urged the ambassador to make arrangements for the speedy return of around 86,000 Bangladeshi workers who could not return to Saudi Arabia due to Covid-19.
Saying that Biman Bangladesh Airlines is currently operating flights to Saudi Arabia under special arrangements, the junior minister requested the Saudi ambassador to allow Biman to operate regular scheduled flights in Saudi Arabia.
In response, the Saudi ambassador said that although Saudi Arabia's air communication with various countries of the world was closed, it was not closed with Bangladesh.
"Once the approval for scheduled flight operation starts, Bangladesh will get it on priority basis first," he also said.
Mentioning that the Bangladeshi workers are efficient and hardworking, the Saudi Ambassador said that their employers are satisfied with the efficiency of Bangladeshi workers.
The ambassador said Saudi investors are keen to invest about $ 5 billion in various sectors in Bangladesh.
Saudi investors are keen to invest in Bangladesh's tourism industry. He also mentioned that Saudi Arabia is interested in working jointly with Bangladesh in the development of the aviation industry.
