BSMMU recruitment anomalies: Govt to look into allegations
The government will look into the allegations of irregularities at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Health Minister Zahid Maleque said today.
He said the government also also look into the allegations against its Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed.
"We have been informed about different types of irregularities including the recruitment process in the university. We will look into these carefully," Zahid Maleque said while addressing a "Meet the Press" event as chief guest, organised by Dhaka Reporter's Unity.
Recently, multiple media outlets published reports on the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process of BSMMU Super Specialized Hospital.
A complaint has been submitted to the Anti-corruption Commission in this regard.
Zahid Maleque said the ministry has little involvement in the decision-making process of the medical university, as the BSMMU is an autonomous organisation.
"But the government allocated funds for the university. So, we will look into the allegations carefully. We do not want any disruption in healthcare services there," he said.
Replying to a query regarding the recruitment process at the hospital, the minister said BSMMU VC Dr Sharfuddin is not in the recruitment committee.
At the event, the minister also highlighted progress in the health sector under the Awami League government.
