Dengue death toll this year reaches 100, two dead in 24 hours

Two more dengue patients died in 24 hours till 8:00am today, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the two, the total death toll due to dengue infection rose to 100 this year.

At least 119 dengue patients were hospitalised during the 24-hour period, of whom 91 are from outside Dhaka, the DGHS data shows.

With the new cases, the total number of dengue cases reached 27,779 while in total 557 were diagnosed during the running month. Of the total infected, 4,496 are from outside Dhaka.

At least 3,567 dengue patients were diagnosed in November, 5,458 in October, 7,841 were diagnosed in September, 7,698 were diagnosed in August, 2,286 patients were hospitalised in July, 272 in June while 43 were infected in May and rest are from January to April, according to the DGHS.

Of the total deaths, 12 people died in July while 34 died in August, 23 in September, 22 in October, seven in November, and two were reported today.

Among them, 92 have died in Dhaka division, two each in Chattogram, Khulna and Mymensingh and one each in Rajshahi and Barishal divisions.

Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 256 are still undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, and 76 outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
