Govt taking steps to protect native tree species: Environment minister

The government has taken an initiative to protect native species of trees, said Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin.

"The government has taken an initiative to prepare a red list of different species of plants which are at risk of extinction," he said.

The government will introduce a strategic plan for protecting native plants and forest resources, which will help achieve Sustainable Development Goals, he said.

The minister said this during a workshop on 'Preparation of national red list of different species of plant in Bangladesh and innovation of foreign aggressive plants management for the designated forests' as a chief guest in the city.

He urged everyone to work together to protect forests, wild animals and the environment.
