Shilpakala Academy celebrates monsoon with Nazrul music evening ‘Borshay Nazrul’
The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy welcomed the monsoon season with a special cultural programme titled ‘Borshay Nazrul’, featuring an evening of Nazrul Sangeet and dance performances inspired by the National Poet’s timeless works on rain and the changing seasons.
The event was held on Wednesday (July 15) evening at the National Theatre Hall of the academy in Dhaka.
Speaking at the programme, Shilpakala Academy Director General Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed highlighted Kazi Nazrul Islam’s deep affection for Bangladesh’s six seasons, noting that many of the poet’s songs and poems beautifully capture the spirit of the monsoon.
“Nazrul’s writings celebrate the beauty of Bangladesh’s seasonal landscape. His songs and poems about rain and the month of Shraban continue to touch and captivate our hearts,” he said.
The cultural evening opened with a group dance by the academy’s performers to “Rimi Jhimi Rimi Jhimi Mon Deya Boroshe”. This was followed by choral renditions of “Dao Shourjo Dao Dhoirjo” and “Megher Domoru Ghono Baje” by the academy’s vocal ensemble.
The programme also featured solo performances by renowned Nazrul Sangeet artistes Fatema Tuz Zohra, Ferdous Ara, Yasmin Mustari, Khairul Alam Shakil and Priyanka Gope.
Several dance troupes also took to the stage, presenting group performances choreographed to Nazrul’s monsoon-themed songs, bringing together music and dance in celebration of the poet’s enduring legacy.
