Renowned chartered accountant Kanchi Lal Das dies from Covid-19
Noted chartered accountant Kanchi Lal Das passed away yesterday at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after he was diagnosed with Covid-19.
He was 77.
He breathed his last around 1:10pm at the coronary care unit (CCU) of DMCH, his son Arunav Das said.
Earlier on May 24, he was admitted to United Hospital in Dhaka with cold and fever. Later he was shifted to DMCH as per doctors' advice to ensure continuous oxygen support, his son added.
He left behind his wife Dr Rita Sen, a retired additional secretary; son Arunav Das Shuvro, a lawyer at the Supreme Court; daughter Deblina Das, a gynaecology specialist at Sarkari Karmachari Hospital, and a host of relatives, friends and well-wishers to mourn his demise.
Born to an aristocratic Hindu family in Mirsarai of Chattogram on October 1, 1943, Kanchi Lal Das completed MCom from Chittagong University.
Later he completed Chartered Accountancy (CA) in 1982 and established his own audit firm Kanchi Lal and Company.
In 2002, he joined Shahed Mohammad to launch Ahmad and Akhtar Chartered Accountants, which went on to become a reputed CA firm in the country.
In his illustrious career, Kanchi Lal Das earned significant reputation and accolades, and had collaborated with many public and private organisations for auditing.
Advocate Dhirendra Debnath, lawmaker from Barguna-1 constituency and member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, expressed condolences at the death of Kanchi Lal Das.
